Midway through January, the resolutions you made for 2017 may have started falling by the wayside, especially the get-fit ones. To help you stay committed, we reached out to student athletes, fitness gurus and other members of the George Washington University
community who know a thing or two about powering through personal goals. Their recommendations make up this workout-friendly playlist, designed to push you and pump you up so you can achieve anything you set out to do in 2017.
“Get on the Floor,” Michael Jackson
“This song has a great beat and an up tempo. The song is about getting your body moving, dancing and having fun. I have this song on my workout playlist because it just puts me in such a great mood. Ultimately, it’s a song by MJ, so you
can't go wrong, and it's one of my favorite songs off of my favorite album by him, “Off the Wall."
-Head Women's Tennis Coach Torrie Browning
“The Greatest,” Sia
"This is my go-to song to run to because it's upbeat and fast, which pushes me to run harder. The song lyrics are also inspiring and make me want to push myself to the max.”
-Senior and women’s soccer team member MacKenzie Cowley
“No Easy Way Out,” Robert Tepper
“The title is a great mantra, and the song is a reminder that there is no easy way to accomplish your goals. It's impossible not to go hard with this song on.”
-Staff, personal trainer Chris Perrin
“Breathin’,” EDX
“I really enjoy this song because it puts me in a great mood and creates a good vibe for my workout. It also reminds me of the summertime and being back home at the Jersey Shore!"
-Junior and men’s basketball red-shirt Jaren Sina
“Born,” MitiS
“This song makes me think of my future goals and plans in the medical field and all the hard work and perseverance it will take to get there. It also makes me think about what I can do now that will help influence my future, and it motivates
me to do what I love and work hard in order to achieve what I want.”
-Sophomore Nate Hammond
“Fallen,” Volbeat
"I have no idea what the song's about, and I'm sure it has nothing to do with keeping a resolution, but it rocks."
-Associate Professor at the Milken Institute School of Public Health Todd Miller
“Roar,” Katy Perry
“This is my go-to pump-up jam. Katy Perry is my favorite artist to begin with, and this song in particular is one of my all-time favorites. The lyrics are upbeat, inspiring and empowering and always help me push a little bit extra.”
-Junior and gymnastics team member Jillian Winstanley
"Hi, Hey There, Hello,” The Mowgli's
"To me, this song is about enjoying the simple pleasures in life and living life to its fullest.”
