With Mother’s Day less than a week away, we’re thinking about ways to show our moms we care. What better way to (literally) sing her praises and think about our favorite memories than with a Mom-themed playlist? George Washington Today collected
some music and memories from people across the university to create this list of tunes you can play next Sunday.
“A Song For Mama,” Boyz II Men
“This song still brings tears to my eyes. I chose this song because it makes me think of my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. These women were very instrumental in raising me, and I am fortunate enough to still have all of them in my life.
I think of the quote, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ My mother, grandmother and great grandmother were my ‘village.’"

“My mom has always been a fan of the great canon of show tunes, and we listened to them incessantly when I was a kid. The songs from the Music Man were always on loop. She always loved the Barbershop harmonies in "Sincere.” As I got older
and music became my life as an adolescent, she loved when I would sing everything we listened to. She would ask me to sing out louder so she could hear me.
Now, it's about listening to her granddaughter Molly (my 11 year old) belt out show tunes. Currently my mom's favorite is “The Schuyler Sisters” from “Hamilton” because it's Molly's favorite to sing loudly.”
