Reid Davenport, B.A. ’12, won the Truer than Fiction Award at the Independent Spirit Awards for his film “I Didn’t See You There.”
According to imdb.com, the documentary by Davenport, a graduate of the School of Media and Public Affairs, tells the story from his perspective of the spectacle of a circus tent that goes up outside his Oakland apartment, which he uses to launch into a meditative journey exploring the history of freakdom, vision and (in)visibility. Shot entirely from director Reid Davenport's physical perspective - mounted to his wheelchair or handheld - the film serves as an unequivocal rebuke to the norm of disabled people being seen and not heard.
