1. Science and Engineering Hall

Located at 22nd and H streets Northwest

Alex Weller was named building Manager in May 2014 for the science and engineering hub, which includes eight floors at ground level or above and six floors below ground level. Ms. Weller will facilitate the building’s move-in scheduled in advance of the opening in early 2015. Classes will be held in SEH starting in the spring 2015 semester. The 500,000-square-foot interdisciplinary space will feature state-of-the-art research labs and technology, including a greenhouse, an aquatic center and an imaging suite.

2. The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum

701 21st St, NW

The 46,000-square-foot museum opened its doors to the university community for a sneak peak event in June and reached substantial completion in July. July also marked the relocation of the Arthur D. Jenkins Library’s 20,000 volumes to the fourth floor of the facility, under the supervision of Librarian Lydia Fraser. The museum, which includes the historic Woodhull House, will be home to The Textile Museum’s collection of more than 19,000 objects, the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection of 860 rare artifacts and items from GW’s own collection. Opening is expected in spring 2015.

3. Future Home of the University Counseling Center (UCC), Student Health Service (SHS) and Center for Alcohol and other Drug Education (CADE)

Marvin Center, 800 21st St. NW

The university announced in July that CADE will join SHS and UCC in a combined wellness space located on the ground floor of the Marvin Center. The centralized wellness center, designed by architecture firm SmithGroupJJR, is currently in development and scheduled to open in the beginning of 2015.

SHS, UCC and CADE are currently operating at their respective locations during normal business hours. The UCC announced last week that additional walk-in services are offered on the Mount Vernon Campus, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday in Suite 119 of the Academic Building.

4. GW Campus Store, GW Technology Hub and "Buff and Blue on Penn"

Marvin Center, 800 21st St. NW and 2100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW

The university announced in August the opening of “Buff and Blue on Penn,” a new GW-branded apparel and gift shop located at 2100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. Colonial fans, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends can visit the new store Monday through Sunday.

The GW Campus Store located on the ground floor of the Marvin Center will continue to stock course materials, textbooks, school supplies and GW-branded gear. The GW Technology Hub, formerly located in the GW Campus Store, will move to the former STA Travel space on the Marvin Center ground floor.

Information regarding store hours for the three locations, operated by the Follett Higher Education Group, can be found online.

5. District House, Residence Hall Renovations

2121 H St. NW, and various locations on the Foggy Bottom Campus

GW kicked off a seven-year renovation cycle for existing residence halls in summer 2014, enhancing Dakota Hall, International House and City Hall with new carpets, cabinetry, drywall and appliances, including upgraded laundry machines through collaboration between the Residence Hall Association and Campus Support Services.

The university will continue developing District House, a new 12-story residence hall that will provide housing for almost 900 students. This summer, the university installed two cranes at the site that will facilitate the completion of two levels below ground. District House is slated for completion in advance of the fall 2016 semester. The facility, which was named through an open campus competition last year, incorporates significant portions of the Crawford, West End and Schenley residence halls.
