Vanessa Northington Gamble, university professor of medical humanities and a professor in American Studies, authored a review in “JAMA Internal Medicine.”

The review, according to the journal, analyzes the role that Herman A. Barnett III and Black civil rights activists played in the history of medical education in the United States and the dismantlement of racially exclusionary policies in medical schools.
