Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Greenwich Village in New York City, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
Each Pride Month, members of the LGBTQ community and allies organize parades, picnics, parties, workshops, concerts and rallies nationwide. These Pride events attract millions of people and commemorate the impact lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex and transgender individuals have had on local, national and international struggles for social justice.
This year, George Washington University students, faculty and staff gathered in the Marvin Center to enjoy summer refreshments at an ice cream and cupcake social hosted Thursday by the Multicultural Student Services Center.
