Following the launch of George Washington University’s virtual learning period, university leaders continue to provide updates on COVID-19 and its impact on the GW community. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to follow the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and exercise caution over the next several weeks in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
The GW community is urged to continue monitoring GW’s COVID-19 website and FAQs, which are frequently updated with new information.
Here are some important recent updates from GW:

Residential students received an email about the next step in the process regarding their remaining belongings on campus. The university has determined, based on guidance issued by the District of Columbia, it will not be safe for students and their families to return to campus in the coming weeks to move out on their own accord, and therefore has begun a phased building-by-building process of packing and storing belongings in each residential room with the assistance of professional moving companies. - The Title IX office issued guidance reminding members of the GW community that maintaining an academic program free from sex/gender discrimination remains a high priority for the university during this period of virtual learning. - The university published new FAQ questions on the COVID-19 website to assist faculty with instructional approaches, technology and other resources during the virtual learning period. That information can be found here.
- In a message to faculty and staff last week, GW leaders announced hiring is suspended across the university for the duration of this public health crisis. A process is being established to consider exceptional essential cases and additional guidance will be provided soon. With respect to current and outstanding offers, the university will honor its commitments, however, each offer will be reviewed by the provost for academic positions and by the executive vice president for all other positions.
