The George Washington University community is gearing up for its fifth annual Giving Day, a 24-hour celebration of philanthropy and impact. From noon on April 2 to noon on April 3, GW alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends will come together to support the areas of campus they care about most.

Last year’s Giving Day shattered records, with nearly 3,500 donors participating from all 50 states and more than a dozen countries. This year, GW is setting its sights even higher, embracing the theme of being a destination for everything—a place where people from around the world come for excellence in research, patient care, education, networking and life-changing experiences.

“GW Giving Day is everyone’s chance to support the area of campus they care about, whether it’s athletics, student life, research or scholarships,” said Daniel J. Burgner, assistant vice president of annual giving at GW. “Everyone can choose what they want to give to, making a direct impact on what matters most to them.”

Behind every “only-at-GW” moment is donor support. From funding research that changes lives to ensuring students have access to scholarships and transformative opportunities, Giving Day showcases the many ways philanthropy fuels the GW experience.

“I love GW Giving Day because it’s a time for all of us to celebrate this incredible university and showcase how donor support makes it all possible,” Burgner added.

To further amplify contributions, GW Giving Day will feature numerous matches and  challenges, doubling or even tripling the impact of donor gifts.

“This is the one time of year that every gift, no matter the size, can qualify for matching support at GW, allowing donors to maximize their generosity,” Burgner explained.

Donors participating in the 24-hour event will witness the immediate impact of their contributions as the university showcases real-time updates on its Giving Day website. Heat maps, leaderboards and progress trackers will illustrate how the collective community effort is directly benefiting students and faculty across various programs.

To make this year even more exciting, GW Giving Day will feature entertaining video content and engaging social media moments.

“I’m excited to see the GW community come together again this year for Giving Day,” Burgner said.

To kick off this year’s Giving Day festivities, a celebration will take place on April 2 from noon to 3 p.m. on Kogan Plaza. GW community members are invited to join in, grab a snack, pick up some GW swag and connect with fellow supporters.
