The George Washington University has announced that Vanessa G. Perry will serve as interim dean for the School of Business, effective Jan. 1, 2024.
Perry joined GW in 2001 as an assistant professor and has since served in several faculty and administrative roles, most recently as vice dean for strategy, special adviser to the dean and professor of marketing, strategic management and public policy.
“Dr. Perry’s deep knowledge of the School of Business’ history, unique strengths and clear opportunities will provide the school with stability and a proven track record of strategic leadership as we proceed with our national search for the next dean of the School of Business,” said Provost Christopher Alan Bracey.
Perry’s broad administrative experience in the School of Business includes serving as associate dean for faculty and research; interim associate dean of graduate programs; assistant dean of specialized master’s programs; and chair of the department of marketing. She has also served at the university level as interim vice provost for diversity and inclusion within the Office of the Provost.
“The opportunity to serve the school in this capacity is an honor,” said Perry. “I am confident that we will continue on our trajectory of achievement throughout this transition.”
A respected teacher on the undergraduate and graduate levels, Perry is also an active researcher and author, with a focus on the housing and financial markets and on business and society. She is a sought-after thought leader beyond GW. She is a non-resident fellow at the Urban Institute’s Housing Finance Policy Center, with past appointments that include senior adviser at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and regulations expert at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Current School of Business Dean Anuj Mehrotra, who is departing GW at the end of the calendar year, expressed confidence in Perry’s interim appointment.
“I have been extremely fortunate to have worked alongside Vanessa Perry during my tenure at GW,” said Mehrotra. “Having served in various leadership roles with distinction, she is a proven leader and dedicated to the School of Business. Dr. Perry’s appointment and willingness to serve gives me confidence that the school will continue its positive trajectory without missing a beat.”
Perry will lead the school during the search for a permanent dean of the School of Business in 2024.
