Despite the cold weather, the George Washington University community was on a hot streak during Welcome Back Week 2014, a series of events curated by the Division of Student Affairs' Hallmark Programs to kick off the spring semester.
The annual Colonials celebration was organized in collaboration with the University Counseling Center, the Multicultural Student Services Center, the LGBT Resource Center and the Center for Student Engagement.
Other co-sponsors include the Graduate School of Education and Human Development Office of Student Life, the Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Education, the Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
From raising high at the Charles E. Smith Center in support of the GW men’s basketball victory over Virginia Commonwealth University, to supporting the arts at the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery opening reception for alumna Holly Trostle Brigham’s, M.F.A. ’94, exhibition "Holly Trostle Brigham: Dis/Guise" and attending the annual torch lighting at the opening ceremonies of Mount Vernon Campus, GW was abuzz with activity.
Students, faculty and staff rounded out the week during the annual MLK Day of Service as more than 600 volunteers honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., serving at 12 sites across D.C., for a whopping 2,400 hours of combined service.
