President Knapp and the Board of Trustees have initiated a three-part assessment of the university’s progress over the past nine years and the outlook for its future as it approaches the beginning of its third century in 2021.

The three components are a holistic evaluation of President Knapp’s leadership, his thoughts on the future of the university and a review of the implementation and impact of the strategic plan (Vision 2021) in light of current and anticipated challenges and opportunities.

“I have found periodic assessments, whether in the corporate world or higher education, serve a valuable purpose and can help focus an organization on its strategic priorities,” said Board of Trustees Chair Nelson Carbonell.  “We look forward to receiving the feedback from the GW community.”

This process, which involves outreach to a number of stakeholders by consultants the university has engaged for this purpose, comes at a natural time for the institution, with the approaching completion of President Knapp’s second term in office and of the university’s comprehensive Making History campaign.

“Periodic review of university leadership and direction is the norm in higher education today," said Dr. Knapp. "I want to thank the members of the GW community who are participating in this exercise.”
