The university has completed the sale of its residential property on W Street near its Mount Vernon Campus.
A private party purchased the property for $1.725 million, and the proceeds will be directed to fund financial aid for students associated with programs on the Mount Vernon Campus, including the Women's Leadership Program and University Honors Program. Additional details about these opportunities will be advertised to students when they become available.
“When it comes to setting priorities for the university, supporting our students and financial aid is at the top of my list. I am glad the proceeds from this sale will enhance access to a GW education,” Provost Forrest Maltzman said.
GW acquired the W Street House with the Mount Vernon Campus (then the Mount Vernon College) in 1999 and turned it into a residence for university leadership. The three-story home, at 4535 W St., NW, which was originally constructed in 1966, most recently served as the provost's residence. The six-bedroom home has been vacant since former Provost Steven Lerman stepped down from his role at the end of 2015.
Washington Fine Properties represented the university in the sale.
