George Washington’s Office of the Provost and Office of the Dean of Students will host information sessions for students interested in applying for the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) Annual Meeting, which will be held on GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus March 30 to April 1, 2012.

During CGI U, George Washington will host more than 1,200 students from around the world as well as a large number of prominent speakers, including President Bill Clinton.

“At George Washington, we have a rich tradition of students who want to make a difference in the world and CGI U presents an excellent opportunity for students at the undergraduate and graduate level to identify a problem and make a commitment to change it,” said Dean of Students Peter Konwerski.

The following information sessions will be held for interested students:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. in Marvin Center, Room 403
  • Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. in Marvin Center, Room 307

Students selected to attend CGI U will attend sessions and network with prominent speakers and fellow participants, learn from social entrepreneurs and participate in skill development sessions that will help propel the vision for their Commitment to Action into real solutions.

A Commitment to Action, which is required to be considered for CGI U, is a proposal for a new, specific and measurable project that addresses at least one of the CGI U focus areas: education, environment and climate change; peace and human rights; poverty alleviation; or public health. Commitments can be made by individual or groups of students.

There will also be opportunities for GW students to volunteer at CGI U, but students cannot attend as both a volunteer and a participant.
