It was sunny with a high of 75 for the hundreds of George Washington University students that flocked to the University Yard for the annual Spring Fling concert, hosted by Program Board.

The outdoor event boasted free pizza from Dominos, T-shirts designed by Program Board Avertising Chair and junior Alana Rusonis, and music from "Top-40" king Jay Sean and lo-fi punk outfit Wavves.

Also on the roster was Congo Sanchez of Thievery Corporation who performed alongside Haile Supreme, also known as Abbay Misganaw, a senior in the GW School of Business.

Students stopped for free pizza, T-shirts and information from student organzations like the Colonial Ambassadors before moving toward the stage for the concert.

“Spring Fling is about building and strengthening traditions, which is one of the cornerstones of our program,Colonial Ambassador and Elliott School of International Affairs junior Maddison Bruer said.

"It really is a catalyst for spring on campus," said Brynne Peluso, a Colonial Ambassador and junior in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.

Haile Supreme (pictured above) will graduate in May with a degree in marketing, but first he'll play a show in Colorado next week with rappers Matisyahu and Talib Kweli. The musically inclined student released an album in 2013 titled, "Liquid Temple."

The crowd kicked into gear for "King of the Beach," the 2010 single from Wavves' album of the same name.  Midway through the set, lead-singer Nathan Williams tried out a new song for the crowd to much applause.

ESIA sophomore Stefan Dinn was a new fan of Wavves, but praised the event as a highlight of the end of the spring term.

“Spring Fling is a lot of fun," Mr. Dinn said. "Everyone is outside and it’s great to see everyone together."

CCAS senior Diksha Gupta came to the concert with friends and fellow seniors Meenakshi Mehra and Rana Shah to see British singer Jay Sean, who gained notoriety for his single "Down," released in 2009.

"I'm here to support her love," Ms. Mehra said.

“It’s wonderful to be out here celebrating with you guys at George Washington University on this beautiful, sunny day," Jay Sean said to the screaming crowd of students.
