Student Health Service After Hours

March 21, 2011

GW’s Student Health Service is now providing a free after-hours hotline for students.

Students can call 202-994-6827 for a wide range of problems and inquiries. A nurse will take a quick medical history and then determine if the student needs to go to the emergency room, make an appointment at Student Health Service or administer self-care. All information is kept completely confidential within Student Health Service. Students may receive a follow-up care call from Student Health Service the next day.

“No need to call your pre-med friend or anybody else for medical advice in the middle of the night, just call Student Health Service and speak with a medical professional,” says Mark Levine, senior associate dean of students. “We are very excited to provide an evening and weekend medical advice line.”

Student Health Service is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and for emergency walk-ins only from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The after-hours hotline will serve all other times.

“Students will now have 24/7 access to medical advice,” says Isabel Goldenberg, medical director of the Student Health Service.

This new medical after-hours hotline is similar to the Counseling Center’s after-hours hotline, which was implemented a few years ago and has been very successful.

“Our new SHS hotline helps us provide medical and mental health support for GW students anytime they need assistance,” says Mr. Levine.
