Michael Doyle, an adjunct professor at the School of Media and Public Affairs, has written his fourth book, “Nightmare in the Pacific: The World War II Saga of Artie Shaw and his Navy Band.”

Doyle’s book recounts the adventures and misadventures of a world-famous musician who went to war in his own way. Band leader Artie Shaw enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor, pulled strings so he could recruit some of the country's best jazz musicians and then set out for the Pacific. Doyle is a reporter for E&E News and teaches advanced and introductory reporting at George Washington University. He is also the author of “The Ministers’ War, Radical Chapters and The Forestport Breaks.”
