SMHS’s Rodolfo V. Curiel Led Study on Autoimmune Disease Medication

Rodolfo V. Curiel, associate professor of medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and division director of rheumatology at the GW Medical Faculty Associates, and a team of researchers from GW recently published “Improvement in Disease Activity in Refractory Juvenile Dermatomyositis Following Abatacept Therapy.”

The article was published in the January 2023 edition of the journal “Arthritis & Rheumatology.”

The article highlighted results from the team’s 24-week study on the safety and efficacy of abatacept, an autoimmune disease medication sold under the brand name Orencia, in patients with refractory juvenile dermatomyositis, a rare disease that causes inflammation of the muscle, skin and blood vessels.
