SMHS Students Promote Health and Wellness in Ward 8

Nearly 150 students from the George Washington University’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences volunteered at the Barry Farm Healthy Living Festival on August 22. The event—sponsored by the Rodham Institute, the Youth and Family Development Model Community Hub and Unity Healthcare—drew together health care professionals and community organizations from throughout the District to tackle the needs of residents in the medically underserved Ward 8. Volunteers provided D.C. residents with health screenings, immunizations, educational materials, healthy snacks and activities like Zumba and aerobics. Many local organizations participated in the event, including Unity Health Care, AmeriHealth and GW’s clinical partners: the GW Medical Faculty Associates, GW Hospital and Children’s National Health System.
