George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences Dean Barbara Lee Bass, RESD ’86, was one of nine women honored by Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) and the Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives for her leadership at the Washington Women of Excellence Awards. Bowser said the honorees are role models for the next generation of women and girls in D.C.
Bass leads the university’s academic clinical enterprise, which includes education, research, patient care and community engagement. She is also a professor of surgery. Bass is the first woman at GW selected to serve as dean of the medical school. She is also the first person to simultaneously hold the titles of dean, vice president for health affairs and CEO of the GW Medical Faculty Associates, a position she held until recently.
