GWSB Associate Dean Vivek Choudhury will serve as interim leader of the school.
George Washington Provost Forrest Maltzman announced Friday that Vivek Choudhury, the associate dean for graduate programs and professor of information systems and technology management at the School of Business, will be interim dean of the school.
“President Knapp and I really appreciate Dr. Choudhury accepting the interim dean role. His experience, along with his collaborative nature, makes him well suited for this role,” Dr. Maltzman said.
Dr. Choudhury served as an GWSB associate dean since January 2016, when he was named to the position by Dean Linda Livingstone, who is leaving the university after the spring 2017 semester to be president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Before coming to GW, Dr. Choudhury was a professor, department head and associate dean at the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business.
As GWSB associate dean for graduate programs, Dr. Choudhury has overseen the integration of the advertising, marketing and digital department with graduate recruitment and admissions. The result is a more cohesive and effective operation that improves the quality of a prospective student’s interaction with the school.
In addition, he has implemented 15 new graduate-level certificate programs that will launch this fall. The new programs create multiple avenues of specialization for GWSB graduate students, and also open up graduate-level course work to individuals outside of GW who may have a need for focused education on a topic but not for a complete graduate degree. These certificates can also serve as a pathway to graduate degree programs.
Dr. Choudhury was also charged with leading the effort to review and revamp GWSB's online degree programs, improving and enhancing students’ experience.
“It is an honor to serve as interim dean,” said Dr. Choudhury. “Under Dean Livingstone’s leadership, GWSB has made great strides in recent years, and I intend to continue to build on this foundation. I want to thank my fellow faculty members, colleagues and staff for their support as we embark on a new chapter together.”
Information about a dean search for GWSB will be forthcoming, Dr. Maltzman said.
