On July 15, Political Science faculty member Angela R. Pashayan spoke at the United Nations headquarters in New York City about politics and development in Africa, particularly issues for the in relation to sustainable development goals
Speaking on behalf of the residents of Mukuru Slum in Nairobi, Kenya and families living informally across Africa, Pashayan called for urgent, coordinated action to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Pashayan highlighted the growing risks of non-action, including public health threats, climate vulnerability and global insecurity. She urged the UN to partner with local governments and member states to support land tenure and community-led solutions as a beginning approach to curb issues that have been ignored since the 1960s.
