George Washington University students returned to the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses over the past week, eager to make new friends and start a new academic year with in-person learning full of “Only at GW” experiences.

On Saturday afternoon, incoming students attended Convocation, an annual opening ceremony where they started to get to know GW’s academic and civic community. In the evening, they marked First Night, an annual tradition that brings the entire community together through carnival games, inflatable attractions, and this year, a 100-foot slide. Throughout the week they celebrated being on campus, enjoying a picnic and lawn games on the National Mall and barbeque on the Mount Vernon campus.

Marking the first day of classes, students were greeted Monday morning with free coffee and well wishes from President Thomas LeBlanc and Interim Provost Christopher Alan Bracey.
