Former President Jimmy Carter shares excerpts from his recently published diary.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, is returning to GW Sept. 29 to share entries from his recently-published White House diary. Presented by the Smithsonian Resident Associates Program, “President Jimmy Carter Reflects on His White House Years” will be held at 7 p.m. in GW’s Lisner Auditorium.

Tickets for $15 are available to GW students at the Lisner Box Office, which is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Friday.

Every day during his presidency, President Carter made several entries in a private diary, recording his thoughts, impressions, delights and frustrations. He offered unvarnished assessments of cabinet members, members of Congress, and foreign leaders and narrated the progress of secret negotiations.

Copies of White House Diary will be available for signing after the program.

Foreign policy accomplishments during President Carter’s administration include the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union and the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.

On the domestic side, his administration’s achievements include a comprehensive energy program conducted by the new Department of Energy; major educational programs under the new Department of Education; and important environmental protection legislation.
