The George Washington University will resume in-person classes and activities in support of the university’s academic mission on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Additionally, university employees should return to their work schedules that were in place prior to the virtual period. Hybrid employees should return to their hybrid schedule, unless directed otherwise by their supervisor. In-person and designated on-site employees should report to work, unless directed otherwise by their supervisor.

We will continue to limit some in-person activity on our campuses until Jan. 31. These restrictions and adjustments are as follows:
  • All in-person social gatherings and events should be held virtually or postponed.
  • All campus facilities, including the University Student Center and District House, will remain closed to the public.
  • Visitors to campus will be limited to those supporting essential functions. In-person interviews should be held virtually.
  • The indoor mask mandate will remain in place on campus and in the District. The use of N95, KN95 or double masking is strongly encouraged. The university will distribute N95 masks on campus. Additional information is forthcoming.
  • Grab and go on-campus dining will be available for on-campus students, faculty and staff only.
  • Lerner Health and Wellness Center and the West Hall Fitness Center will be closed. Symptomatic testing will continue in LHWC.
  • Access to the libraries will be limited to students, faculty and staff. Occupancy of study rooms and tables will be limited to single occupants and masking compliance will be rigorously monitored. Please refer to the Onward site for full details.
  • Athletic events will take place without ticketed fans. Athletic teams not in their NCAA designated 20-hour playing season, or whose season is not imminent, should not hold practices or any in-person events.
  • Club and intramural sports competitions are cancelled.
  • Musical and artistic performances will be postponed.
Research and lab spaces may resume full operations. The university will continue to allow limited international travel in accordance with the latest version of the Interim Policy for International Travel during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Students, faculty, and staff traveling domestically will be expected to follow the established domestic travel policies for their school/department and the current local/CDC travel guidelines.

We anticipate restoring in-person activities in a phased approach beginning Feb. 1. Our Medical Advisory Group continues to monitor the rates of COVID-19 transmission on our campuses and locally, and we will provide any updates to you.

As a reminder, the deadline for GW’s booster dose requirement for those eligible was Jan. 10. If you have not uploaded your documentation, please do so as soon as you are able. This is a manual process and may take up to a week for your record to be updated. The booster dose is required for access to campus.
