The George Washington University Vern Express and Virginia Science and Technology Campus shuttle service will be operated starting July 1 by a new company, RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation, which will provide all new hybrid vehicles equipped with Wi-Fi, the university announced Thursday.
GW officials selected RMA through a competitive bid process.
“We were impressed by RMA’s commitment to customer service and are pleased with the service enhancements being offered, including vehicles with Wi-Fi and an all gas hybrid fleet,” said Alicia Knight, senior associate vice president for operations.
Ms. Knight added that RMA would work with GW’s transportation staff to ensure a seamless transition from the current provider in July.
Shuttle schedules are anticipated to remain unchanged at this time, but officials will continue to assess schedules prior to the fall semester. RMA also will continue to use TransLoc technology, which allows students to track shuttle locations and departures as well as receive updates about any service issues.
Student Association President Peak Sen Chua said the SA has made transportation a priority this year and worked with the university to “drastically enhance a key part of the student experience,” especially for those who live on the Mount Vernon Campus or use the Vern Express.
Owned and operated by Robert M. Alexander, RMA has its core operations in the D.C. area and vehicles in 600 cities across the globe.
“We want riders of GW’s shuttles to experience the absolute best service they’ve ever had from a transportation company,” Mr. Alexander said.
