Have you ever experienced an urgent child care challenge? Have you found that all the summer camps for your children had filled up? Have you struggled with where to begin to find a nursing home for your parent?
Employees at The George Washington University have access to a benefit service that helps resolve these types of challenges. The Family Care Consultation and Resource and Referral Service was established to help GW employees find quality care for their children, their adult dependents, and their aging parents and close relatives.
The service is provided by Family Care Resources under the leadership of Carol Ann Rudolph, M.A. ’77, an expert in child care and early childhood education. Ms. Rudolph collaborates with specialists in elder care and special education who can support working parents and families in need of care and information.
“Family Care Resources is a terrific GW benefit and a sound resource that I have used on multiple occasions for everything from infant and childcare information to navigating the kindergarten and grade school process,” says Rose Dunnegan, business integration manager in the Office of Real Estate Planning and Development.
“Carol Anne Rudolph’s experience, expertise and advice have been consistently reliable and beneficial,” she says. “Family Care Resources is like having a personal family consultant at your fingertips.”
Family Care Resources assists employees in person, over the phone and via e-mail. The service team provides lists of resources, makes telephone calls and conducts Web searches about specific resources to determine availability, cost, hours and other details employees may need to make responsible decisions about the care of their relatives.
The service also provides on-site consultation two days a month, and employees can make appointments to meet with a specialist on these days. Employees receive at least one hour of consultation and one hour of follow up as well as a packet of information tailored to their specific needs. The referral service is free of charge to all benefits-eligible employees.
