More than 3,400 prospective George Washington University freshmen and their families will arrive on campus over the coming weeks for Inside GW, the series of “admitted student days,” during which visitors can sample classes, tour GW’s multiple campuses and meet current students. Admitted student days began Friday and will continue on April 10, 14, 17 and 21.
“Inside GW provides admitted students with the opportunity to try on GW for a day,” said Deborah Snelgrove, director of visits and events in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. “While on campus, students can attend a faculty lecture, meet with representatives from GW’s student organizations, and visit a number of our residence hall communities. It is our hope that students will leave Inside GW with an authentic understanding of the GW undergraduate experience.”
“Inside GW” days begin at the Charles E. Smith Center, where Dean of Admissions Costas H. Solomou, University Provost Forrest Maltzman and current students will welcome guests with a breakfast and overview.
Admitted students will then break into small, personalized school cohorts for a sample academic session with a future professor and a discussion with academic advisors. Students admitted to the School of Engineering and Applied Science will tour the Science and Engineering Hall; other groups will bus to lunch, residence hall open houses and program overviews on the Mount Vernon Campus.
In the afternoon, visitors can tour residence halls on the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses and explore ways to get involved with GW’s more than 450 student organizations at the Student Organization Bash.
Family members, meanwhile, may attend their own targeted programming. In the morning, top GW administrators will lead a session on student success. In the afternoon, Associate Vice President of Student Financial Assistance Dan Small will provide an overview of the university’s financial aid process.
During the day, visitors may also attend optional tours and community activities. The Multicultural Student Services Center will hold an open house; the George Washington University Museum and the Textile Museum will offer a free guided tour; the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design will showcase NEXT, its annual art exhibition featuring the thesis work of graduating seniors; and the Science and Engineering Hall will be open for tours.
Those who cannot make it to an Inside GW day are encouraged to attend a “Final Look” session, a series of enhanced information programs designed specifically for newly admitted students. The sessions will be held April 11-13, 18-20 and 24-28.
