The George Washington University recognized nine employees and six departments Friday for their contributions to the GW community at the Celebration of Excellence awards:
Individual Staff Go the Extra Mile Award

The conference also marked the end of the university’s steps challenge, a GW walking competition to promote wellness. The university community amassed 146,017,582 steps during the challenge, which ran Oct. 1 to Oct. 29.
Jonathan Vadnal, a research assistant at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences’ Hawdon Laboratory, took home first prize—an Apple Watch—in the head-to-head challenge, winning all 29 of his matchups and averaging 41,279 steps a day. The College of Professional Studies/Graduate School of Political Management won the team challenge, averaging 14,660 steps a day as a group and winning free lunch from Beefsteak.
