The George Washington University’s Latin Heritage Celebration formally kicked off Sunday with the Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS)’ “Meet La Familia.” Running through Oct. 15 and organized by a board representing a coalition of student organizations, LHC is an opportunity to bring GW’s Latin community together and showcase stories from the university and beyond.

This year’s theme, “El pueblo unido jamás será vencido” (“A united community shall never be defeated”) is a call to solidarity and communal strength.

“The Latin Heritage Celebration gives us a chance to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Latin and Hispanic communities at GW and beyond,” President Ellen M. Granberg said. “The spirit of this celebration comes to life across our campus—in our students’ leadership, our faculty’s scholarship, our staff’s expertise—and also in the perspectives our alumni carry into the world. I'm especially grateful to the students organizing this year's celebration and to the broader campus community whose work makes GW stronger. We remain committed to celebrating these contributions and ensuring that Latin and Hispanic voices continue to shape our community, not just this month but throughout the year.”
