The George Washington University honored the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, on its 25th anniversary. There was a solemn ceremony Friday in University Yard, where carillon bells rang at both 8:46 a.m. and 9:37 a.m. in remembrance.
Nearly 3,000 U.S. flags were on display in University Yard to remember those lost, including nine alumni. A wreath honoring them was installed by their memorial plaque in Anniversary Park.
The nine alumni lost that day were: Sara M. Clark, M.A. ’75; Andrew K. Friedman, B.A. ’79; Melissa M. Harrington Hughes, M.B.A. ’95; Robert F. Mace, J.D. ’84; John P. O’Neil M.F.S. ’78; Todd H. Reuben, J.D. ’89; John Sammartino, B.S. ’86; Andrew Stergiopoulos, B.A. ’00; and James T. Waters, Jr. B.A. ’84.
