The Division for Student Affairs welcomed Chicago-based chef Zubair Mohajir to campus for a special Ramadan celebration as part of GW Dining’s ongoing Celebrity Chef Series.
Mohajir—known for his appearance on Top Chef and recognition from the Michelin Guide and Chicago’s Jean Banchet Awards—partnered with GW Dining and the Center for Interfaith and Spiritual Life to host two Iftar dinners at Shenkman Dining Hall and Pelham Dining Hall on March 3 and 4, respectively.
Throughout the evening in Shenkman Dining Hall, Mohajir worked alongside GW Dining’s culinary team, sharing techniques, flavors and traditions rooted in his heritage. Students had the opportunity to meet the chef, take photos and hear about his journey bringing the flavors of South Asian cuisine to restaurants across Chicago and the United States.
Along with a delicious meal, a local henna artist offered students traditional henna designs along with a short henna art class where attendees could learn about the cultural significance and techniques behind the intricate designs.
DSA made sure all students could join this exciting opportunity by extending meal vouchers to those without a GW Dining Meal Plan.
