GW Alumnus Named Deputy Director of the Space Development Agency

George Washington University alumnus Gurpartap Sandhoo, D.Sc. ’97, has been appointed deputy director of the Space Development Agency (SDA), a direct-reporting unit of the U.S. Space Force that is tasked with delivering space-based capabilities to support military operations.

Before joining SDA, Sandhoo served as vice president and chief architect at Quantum Space and as director for emerging technologies at Northrop Grumman. He also previously served as deputy director at the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency and head of the Spacecraft Engineering Division at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. Sandhoo is a veteran of more than 36 years of service in the active and reserve components of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. He last served as the National Reconnaissance Office liaison to the Security Assistance Group–Ukraine and as a senior scientist at the Defense Innovation Unit.
