Another academic year at the George Washington University is nearing the finish line, which means final exams and projects are just around the corner. The Division for Student Affairs has compiled a list of resources for students to utilize during this time, which includes academic and counseling services, free fitness classes and more ways to support wellbeing through finals.

Academic resources

Students can utilize the following to help with end of the semester to-do lists such as writing papers, catching up on unread assignments, finishing final projects and studying for exams:

  • Academic Commons. This centralized navigation system offers tutoring and course reviews for undergraduate students throughout the final exam period, including help finding available study spaces.
  • Office for Student Success. This office oversees the implementation of academic processes and policies, special programs and support services to ensure students have the resources they need to thrive at GW and during final exam period.
  • Students feeling overwhelmed by deadlines can view two-to-three-minute videos made by GW students with tips for time management.
  • Writing Center. A division of the University Writing Program, this center offers free, peer-based support to students finishing up final papers. Clients participate in one-on-one sessions with student consultants on their projects at all stages of the writing process.
  • All library services, including the Ask Us Desk, assistance locating resources and contactless book pick up or delivery, are available for students.
  • Extended library and study space hours in Gelman and Eckles libraries.
  • Disability Support Services (DSS). Students who need to request certain accommodations can visit DSS, which works collaboratively with the GW community to foster a climate of universal academic excellence while promoting disability culture.

Counseling services

Students can connect with a counselor/clinician for an in-person visit at the Student Health Center during daily same day hours from noon-4 p.m. Monday to Friday. During these same hours call 202-994-5300 for a virtual session. Students can call 202-994-5300 (option 3) 24-hours a day, seven days a week to speak with a counselor.

GW is partners with TimelyCare, a leading virtual telehealth provider to help students access medical and/or counseling services anytime—during the day, at night or on the weekend. Download the TimelyCare mobile app to your Android or Apple phone or visit via GW’s TimelyCare portal on your desktop. Whether you’re feeling under the weather, anxious or overwhelmed, you can talk to a licensed provider to get the care you need via phone or secure video visits at no cost to you.

Events to manage stress

  • The Lerner Health and Wellness Center is offering free group fitness classes from May 1-8.
  • On Thursday, May 1, recharge for the Final Lap Petting Zoo, hosted in partnership with Squeals on Wheels. Starting at 1 p.m. in G Street Park, come for a serotonin boost with a cute crew of animals ready for cuddles, pets and stress relief.

DSA advises students that taking care of themselves is part of doing their best, and the office encourages students to schedule time to rest and recharge in addition to study time.
