Giving Day 2025

The 2025 GW Giving Day marked the most impactful Giving Day in the university's history.

The George Washington University community came together in an extraordinary show of support during Giving Day 2025, raising more than $2 million from 3,596 donors to benefit 356 areas across campus. It marked the most impactful Giving Day in GW’s history and demonstrated the far-reaching pride and loyalty of the GW community.

Throughout April 2 and 3, alumni, families, students, faculty, staff and friends from all 50 states and nearly every corner of the globe—including a gift from South Korea, almost 7,000 miles from Foggy Bottom—made contributions that will help students thrive, learn and lead at GW and beyond. From scholarships and student organizations to athletics and academic programs, every area of the university felt the power of collective generosity.

Daniel J. Burgner, assistant vice president of annual giving, said the excitement and enthusiasm that surrounded this year’s event was inspiring. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our GW community,” Burgner said. “The success of this year’s Giving Day reflects the powerful commitment of our community to moving GW forward together. Every gift, no matter the size, plays a vital role in shaping the GW experience for our students.”

Among the top areas that received support were student scholarships, GW Hillel, baseball, the President’s Fund for Excellence and women’s rowing. Across the board, each contribution helped ensure that students have the resources, experiences and support they need to excel in an ever-changing world. Matching grants and challenges throughout the day helped amplify the impact of individual gifts, and donors responded in record numbers.

For many, Giving Day was not just about making a gift, but about giving back to the community that helped shape their own lives. Alumna Constancia Muswerakuenda, M.S. ’24, made her first donation during Giving Day 2025, citing her deep connection to GW as her motivation.

“I feel connected and grateful. I have lived the impact,” Muswerakuenda said. “I am investing where roots were planted, and I understand now how every gift adds up to something meaningful.” As a former recipient of a tuition award and now assistant director of leadership annual giving at GW, she knows firsthand the difference donor support can make.

Jason Kofinas, B.A. ’05, M.D. ’09, and his wife, Antonia Kofinas, B.A. ’07, M.D. ’11, also chose to give back by making a matching gift to support scholarships at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. “Financial worries shouldn't stand in the way of the dream to make a difference in patients’ lives,” Jason Kofinas said. "We are hoping to give this opportunity to as many students as we can."

Burgner emphasized that Giving Day is about more than dollars raised—it’s about building a community of support that lifts up students in meaningful and lasting ways. “Each contribution helps shape the future of GW and provides opportunities for students to pursue their passions and make an impact,” he said. “We’re inspired by the generosity we witnessed during Giving Day and remain committed to ensuring every gift continues to transform lives at GW.”

The university is already looking ahead to next year’s Giving Day, scheduled for April 7-8, 2026. While Giving Day 2025 has officially concluded, supporters can continue to make a difference by visiting give.gwu.edu.
