Former George Washington University student-athlete and alumnus Kevin Mahala, B.A. ’18, was recently named the minor league hitting coordinator for the New York Mets. Prior to being hired by New York, he spent four seasons within the Philadelphia Phillies organization, rising from player information assistant to serving last season as an upper-level hitting coordinator.
Mahala played three seasons for the GW baseball team before signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who drafted him in the 18th round of the 2016 MLB Draft following his junior season. During his final season, he hit .286 with four home runs and a team-best 47 RBIs in 55 games. His 20 doubles led the team and ranked second in the Atlantic 10 while standing as the third most in a single season in program history.
