The High-Quality Undergraduate Education Strategic Planning Committee is soliciting feedback that will inform its recommendations for a five-year plan to develop a strategy with measurable outcomes to attract and retain high-quality students and to guide what educational opportunities the George Washington University should provide to students.
The public forum will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 in Room 310 of the Marvin Center, 800 21st St., NW.
The High-Quality Undergraduate Education Strategic Planning Committee—one of four committees tasked with developing recommendations for each of the strategic plan’s pillars—is charged with developing a strategy “with measurable outcomes to attract and retain a high-quality student body and recommendations for the educational opportunities that we should provide to our students.”
During this public forum, the committee hopes to hear from students, faculty, staff and alumni on the following questions:
- #Only@GW STEM: How do we find innovative ways of doing STEM at GW? How do we innovate by building on our strengths and existing resources?
- Academic advising and student success: How do we support students in their time at GW?
- Leveraging GW’s location: How do we draw on our unique location to enhance educational opportunities?
- Academic innovation: How do we ensure that students learn what they want and need to learn in a context in which new knowledge is constantly being produced? How do we eliminate barriers to their educational goals and aspirations?
The committee chair is Gayle Wald, professor of American Studies in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. The vice chair is Jason Zara, associate chair for academic affairs in Biomedical Engineering.
“The committee looks forward to hearing from the broader GW community about our strategic planning regarding undergraduate education,” said Dr. Wald. “We see this as an opportunity to listen to ideas, comments and concerns.”
