The George Washington University community came out to celebrate its diversity at the Multicultural Student Services Center’s (MSSC) 15th annual block party.
Connecting new and returning students, faculty and staff, GW welcomed all members of the community on Friday evening with music, food and fun. The university’s various multicultural student organizations set up booths at the Marvin Center Grand Ballroom and third-floor terrace so students could learn more about groups with whom they could share their interests.
A part of Welcome Week, diverse student organizations also performed routines for the crowd and showed the prospective members what they are all about. University administrators, including President Thomas LeBlanc and Provost Forrest Maltzman, also participated in the block party events, including the annual faculty and staff Wobble.
Michael Tapscott, director of the MSSC, said the presence of university administrators is a powerful testimony to the value, impact, and importance of this of event at GW. He said that the annual block party is significant statement to the GW community about the university's institutional commitment to diversity and inclusion.
"We believe that the most significant investment in our students must be associated with building the greatest memories of collegiate life," Mr. Tapscott said. "Our goal is to make everyone feel welcomed, feel like they matter, and feel like they belong to the MSSC—and to GW—for a lifetime."
