The 2010 holiday party for faculty and staff will be held Dec. 16 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on the third floor of GW’s Marvin Center. Seasonal food, music, entertainment and prizes will be in abundance at the party, which will follow the theme “Proud to be GW.” Winners of the door-cubicle decorating contest will be announced at the event.

“We typically see more than 2,000 guests at the annual holiday party, which is planned to recognize the contributions of GW faculty and staff.” says Michael Peller, assistant vice president for events and venues.

The party is also a place to help those in need this season. Faculty and staff members are encouraged to donate canned goods, other nonperishable food items, toys, socks and blank holiday cards at the party to be entered into door prize drawings.

This year’s party will incorporate charitable traditions from years past, including Adopt-A-Family, Toys-for-Tots and the GW Red Scarf Project.

Sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, Adopt-A-Family provides gifts for hundreds of local residents who may not receive them otherwise.

Donate new, unwrapped toys or money to Toys-for-Tots, organized by GW’s NROTC. Midshipmen are collecting donations at the GWU/Foggy Bottom Metro Station until Dec. 3.

For the sixth year, the GW Red Scarf Project is teaming up with the Orphan Foundation of America in support of the National Red Scarf Project. Bring needles and yarn to the holiday party and join the team to knit and crochet.

Other charitable initiatives include a Dec. 9 blood drive in the Marvin Center’s Continental Ballroom, a university-wide clothing drive and the GW Faculty/Staff campaign. New charitable initiatives include Camp Kesem GW and Operation –Graduation Diploma Drive.
