GW students will have access to more study and meeting spaces in the Marvin Center this fall.
Construction has begun on renovating part of the Marvin Center’s ground floor into two student lounges and eight meeting rooms of varying size. Students will be able to go online and reserve the rooms for meetings or study groups for two hours. The system will be similar to Gelman Library’s online reservation system.
“There’s always been a desire to have more lounge, meeting and study space on campus. We believe these new spaces will provide students with more options and help to enrich their time at GW,” said Michael Peller, assistant vice president for events and venues.
Beginning this month, registered student organizations will be able to reserve Room 309, the third largest meeting room in the Marvin Center, for meetings and events. This room is equipped with duel screens and LCD projectors, a distributed sound system, a built-in wireless system, teleconferencing and high definition and Blue Ray projection capability. Like other meeting rooms in the Marvin Center, there is also cable TV connectivity.
As part of the reorganization, the first floor of what was formerly the Fishbowl on G Street is being converted into office space and will no longer be available for student use.
Student dance organizations now also have access to an activity room on the fifth floor. Formerly the GWorld office, the space was renovated this summer. Hardwood floors, soundproof technology and mirrors were installed. Some classes, such as Lifestyle, Sport & Physical Activity offered through the Department of Exercise Science, will be held in the activity room while campus construction is ongoing.
All of the new spaces, which were developed out of student focus groups, will be open Sunday through Wednesday 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
