Moody's Investors Service has affirmed George Washington University's A1 rating, with a stable outlook, the group announced.

The affirmation of GW’s A1 rating reflects its “very good” brand and strategic positioning as a large, comprehensive urban university. The group also cited GW leveraging its location in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.

The rating is a positive and independent evaluation of the financial health of the university, said Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Bruno Fernandes.

The stable outlook reflects Moody's expectations for future earnings, including in part prospects for improved performance under the new agreement with Universal Health Services. The stable outlook is also based on strong stewardship of commercial real estate assets and financial leverage.
