Moody’s Investors Service has affirmed the George Washington University’s A1 rating with a stable outlook, the group announced this week.
In affirming the rating, Moody’s referenced the university’s overall financial strength and said GW’s strategic positioning is “very good,” citing a comprehensive variety of undergraduate and graduate programs and an “attractive urban location” that support long-term demand prospects.
The university’s stable outlook, according to Moody’s, reflects its expectation that GW will continue to take “prudent and aggressive actions” to address near-term financial challenges and position the university for long-term fiscal sustainability.
“The Moody’s rating is an important independent evaluation of the financial health of the university,” President Thomas LeBlanc said. “This strong rating and positive assessment is a testament to the deliberate and diligent efforts of many in our community who have helped the university navigate unprecedented financial challenges and position us for the future.”
