Message from President LeBlanc on New Zealand Mosque Attacks

“As a community, we at GW must be present for those in need and offer compassion and support,” Dr. LeBlanc writes.

March 18, 2019

On behalf of the George Washington University, Anne and I offer our deepest condolences to the Al Noor and Linwood mosques and to the people of Christchurch, New Zealand, after Friday’s violent attack. We stand in solidarity and mourning with the Muslim community globally and here at GW. Like all forms of extremism and hate, Islamophobia has no place in our society.

As students return to campus after Spring Break, we know members of our own community may be personally affected by this horrific event. As a community, we at GW must be present for those in need and offer compassion and support. Counselors and resources are available for students at the Colonial Health Center and for faculty and staff on the Wellbeing Hotline.
