GW students on Kogan Plaza after shootings in Pittsburgh

GW students gather for a moment of silence Monday to show solidarity with victims of the fatal mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. (Kristen Mitchell/GW Today)

On behalf of the George Washington University, Anne and I offer our deepest condolences to the Tree of Life synagogue and greater Pittsburgh community after the violent tragedy on Saturday. The hate and bigotry that motivated the attack is abhorrent and has no place in our society. At the same time, we mourn and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and in our own GW community. A delegation from GW Hillel will travel to Pittsburgh tomorrow to attend services and lend support.

We know that members of our own community may be personally affected by this horrific event. We must be present for those who may be in need and offer our condolences and support. Counselors and resources are ready and available for students at the Colonial Health Center and for faculty and staff on the Wellbeing Hotline.
