Grammy Award-winning British singer/songwriter Elvis Costello hit the stage of Lisner Auditorium solo on Friday, playing 25 songs during a two-hour set.

Grammy Award-winning British singer/songwriter Elvis Costello hit the stage of Lisner Auditorium solo on Friday, playing 25 songs during a two-hour set.

The performance was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's first major set of headlining solo dates on the East Coast in a decade.

Though Mr. Costello used a variety of guitars and effects to create a wall of electric sound for some songs, he also stepped away from amplification and let the natural reverberation of his voice and a single acoustic guitar ring through the auditorium.

Mr. Costello recently released a new album, "Wise up Ghost," a collaboration with Grammy Award- winning hip hop/neo-soul band The Roots, which has garnered early praise from critics.
