Keeping GW Alert

March 21, 2011

It's Time to Upgrade Your GW Alert with graphical representation of signal

The university is launching an upgraded version of the GW Alert desktop application, which, when activated, will inform the community of imminent threats via a scrolling message at the bottom of the screen.

The new system, which requires less memory than its predecessor and is compatible with Mac computers, will direct users who click on it to the Campus Advisories page.

Students are encouraged to uninstall their current version of GW Alert and then install the new version, following the instructions on the Campus Advisories page.

Faculty and staff members whose computers are managed by the Division of Information Technology do not need to take any action, and their systems will automatically receive the software upgrade.

Departmental technical support staff will contact the faculty and staff members whose computers are not managed by the division.

A Weather Channel widget is available on Campus Advisories to replace the weather feature associated with the current GW Alert. In addition to current weather, the Weather Channel widget provides weather warnings for Washington, D.C.

The Division of Information Technology is available to answer questions Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 202-994-GWIT (4948).
