George Washington University leaders recently announced that current students will be able to register for summer and fall courses regardless of any financial holds on their account and that temporary housing on the Foggy Bottom campus will be made available to medical professionals, as the university continues to respond to COVID-19 and its impact on the GW community.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to follow the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and exercise caution in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. The GW community is urged to continue monitoring GW’s COVID-19 website and FAQs, which are frequently updated with new information.

Here are some important recent updates from GW:

  • In an email message to students, GW President Thomas LeBlanc emphasized the importance of students’ well-being amid the stay-at-home orders and social distancing recommendations. The university is committed to providing students with the support and resources they need for their health and wellness.  Counseling and Psychological Services within the Colonial Health Center continues to provide 24/7 consultation and support to the GW student community, and many other virtual resources are available as well. • The university announced Monday it will be providing temporary housing to medical professionals from GW Hospital and the Medical Faculty Associates who are unable to travel home to be with their families while they are providing urgent medical care during this growing pandemic. Find more information here.

  • Scott Burnotes, the associate vice president for safety and security, answered questions about what has been going on in Foggy Bottom while students have been away. Read the Q & A here.

  • Effective April 16, all students currently registered for the spring 2020 semester will be able to register for classes as scheduled during the summer and fall registration cycles regardless of their current account balance. A financial hold will not prevent students from registering for future courses. Find more information here.

  • Registration for fall 2020 classes will begin on Thursday, April 16, following the priority schedule available on the Registrar's Office webpage. Registration will begin each day at 9 a.m. During this period of instructional continuity, registration transactions normally completed using the RTF-EZ form in person at the Hub will be processed by the Student Financial and Registration Services team in the order received at [email protected].

  • The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. The cloth face cover is meant to protect other people in case you are infected. The CDC has issued guidance on how to make your own covering at home. Find various sew and no sew instructions here.
