University Human Resources hosted the first of four events regarding employee benefits Monday. The series of briefings is intended for faculty and staff to learn firsthand about changes to the George Washington University’s benefits plans ahead of the annual open enrollment period, which starts Oct. 1.

Vice President for Human Resources Sabrina Ellis and Associate Vice President for HR Talent Management John Kosky hosted the Monday briefing, which included information on GW’s plan offerings for 2016 and the results of the university’s 2015 benefits study.

In addition to the briefings, Human Resources will host several educational events over the next two months, including sessions on benefits in general and the university’s high-deductible health plan, specifically.

“We also will have open enrollment fairs,” Ms. Ellis said Monday. “So in addition to these sessions, if you have specific questions you can always attend those fairs.”

Three more briefings are scheduled for next week—Sept. 22 and 24 on the Foggy Bottom Campus, and Sept. 25 at the Virginia Science and Technology Campus. GW’s Health Advocate is also available to faculty and staff who have specific questions about their health care benefits.  Open enrollment, the annual period for university employees to amend benefits—medical, dental, flexible spending accounts, life insurance and vision—runs Oct. 1 through Oct. 30. Changes made during open enrollment will go into effect Jan. 1, 2016.
