Update: March 18: All the students studying in Japan have either left or have booked flights out of the country.

After a devastating earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, the university has ensured its students studying in the country are secure and is supporting Japanese students at GW.

“Our thoughts and concerns are with the Japanese people in the aftermath of this tragedy, especially our students from Japan and their families and friends,” says President Steven Knapp. “We are doing everything we can to ensure that our students on campus are receiving the appropriate support and have confirmed that our students in the country are safe.”

GW has eight students studying abroad in Japan, all in areas far south of the earthquake’s epicenter. All are accounted for and safe.

Thirty Japanese students are currently enrolled at GW. University officials have contacted these students this morning to offer support and sympathy.
