The George Washington University is gearing up for its signature Alumni & Families Weekend, scheduled for Oct. 18-20. With more than 1,800 participants already registered, the event promises an exciting and memorable experience for the entire GW community.

“Alumni & Families Weekend is a special chance for our full community to connect each fall and celebrate GW,” said Patty Carocci, associate vice president of alumni relations and annual giving. "We eagerly anticipate this event and are thrilled to highlight our exclusive GW programs, welcome our alumni back to campus, and showcase the amazing work of our students and faculty. It’s an unforgettable weekend.”

The celebration kicks off Friday night with a welcome gathering for students and their families, featuring food, music, games and plenty of Instagram-worthy moments. Meanwhile, GW alumni can enjoy a tropical-themed party, complete with a special tiki mug giveaway and live entertainment from steel pan musician Sherwin Thwaites. The night wraps up with Acapella Palooza, showcasing performances from GW’s talented a cappella groups.

Saturday begins with the deans’ open houses, followed by a series of engaging faculty lectures. In the afternoon, President Ellen M. Granberg will host a Presidential Dialogue, where she will present her vision for the university and discuss how collaboration across GW is fostering transformative change.

Other Saturday highlights include tours of the renovated Thurston Hall, the popular Vern Harvest—GW’s autumn-themed event at the Mount Vernon Campus—and class reunion celebrations for the classes of 1999 (25th reunion), 2004 (20th reunion), 2009 (15th reunion) and 2014 (10th reunion). To close out the night, comedian and former host of "The Daily Show," Trevor Noah, will take the stage at the Charles E. Smith Center.

The weekend winds down on Sunday with the Buff & Blue Brunch followed by Democracy Dialogues, featuring journalist Chuck Todd, CCAS ’95, and Jon Meacham, writer, reviewer, historian and a Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential biographer.

To commemorate the weekend, participants can purchase AFW 2024 T-shirts for $20, available both online during registration and on-site. Full details and registration are available on the Alumni & Families Weekend website.
