Brand refresh activity

The George Washington University will host a pair of community town halls to share the latest developments in the institution’s refreshed marketing direction. This initiative began in early 2025 to ensure that the university’s communications and marketing efforts consistently highlight the ideas and strengths that make GW recognizable and unique. This effort builds on the last branding initiative that took place in 2012.

The sessions will offer a preview of GW’s brand positioning and narrative, as well as design elements that illustrate the updated creative look and feel.  The updated marketing direction has been influenced by multiple touch points of community feedback that included a university-wide working group,  multiple focus groups, a reputation survey and  discussions with GW community leaders. Many GW community members got a sneak peek of the refreshed marketing direction during multiple activities during Alumni & Families Weekend.

The first town hall will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the University Student Center Amphitheater on the Foggy Bottom campus. The second town hall  will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 19 in Innovation Hall at the Virginia Science and Technology Campus. The town hall is only open to members of the GW community. At the town halls, GW community members will learn more about the creative concept, see examples of marketing and be able to ask questions.

“After 10 months of gathering feedback and working together with members from across the university, we’re excited to share this work with  the community,” said Vice President for Communications and Marketing Ellen Moran. “Our refreshed marketing strategy amplifies GW’s strengths of proximity and progress, and is brought to life by a compelling creative concept. We encourage everyone to come out and get a first glimpse at the town halls.”
